Today, I want to share my personal journey to becoming a full-time entrepreneur. It’s been a rollercoaster filled with both challenges and triumphs, and I hope my story can inspire and guide you on your own entrepreneurial path.
My background
Let me give you a bit of background about myself. My journey started with a law degree, where I picked up problem-solving and critical thinking skills. From there, I moved into journalism, spending 10 years in the industry, specialising in sports media. This experience taught me the power of storytelling and sharpened my communication skills. At the same time, I pursued my passion for helping others by becoming a certified confidence coach. Working with individuals to build their self-assurance and resilience has been incredibly rewarding and shaped my approach to coaching.
Balancing a Full-Time Job and Starting a Business
The idea to start my own business came from a desire for more freedom and financial security. I wanted extra income to travel more and build a savings safety net. That’s how Educo London was born, an online tutoring service offering personalised education from KS1 to A-Level.
Balancing a full-time job with irregular shifts, starting as early as 4am and often working weekends, while building a business was a challenge. There were many late nights, early mornings, and missed social events. The initial stages were filled with manual processes and countless hours spent managing client queries and troubleshooting issues.
Key Turning Points and Moments of Realisation
There were several pivotal moments in my journey that led to significant changes and growth. One such moment was realising that I needed to streamline and automate my business processes to stay sane and efficient. This led to implementing various tools and systems that automated scheduling, payments, and client communication.
Another turning point was understanding the importance of delegation. Trusting an assistant to handle critical tasks allowed me to focus on strategic growth and high-impact activities. This shift not only improved my productivity but also helped me avoid burnout.
Overcoming Obstacles and Achieving Success
The journey wasn’t without its obstacles. Slow client growth, payment issues, and the constant juggle between work and business were challenging. However, each challenge was a learning opportunity. I learned the importance of setting clear payment terms, leveraging organic marketing channels, and continuously improving my services based on feedback.
The most significant milestone was achieving an average revenue of £5,000 per month with just 5 hours of work per week. This success gave me the confidence to quit my full-time job and pursue my passion for coaching full-time. Now, as the founder of Nemesha Bala Coaching, I help busy professionals become time rich by building profitable, automated businesses.
